What was this project about?
The UNDP-LAC team approached us with the need to map the supply, demand, and gaps in care services, whether public, private, or community-based, for children aged 0 to 5, people with disabilities, and older adults requiring care, in countries and districts including Metropolitan Lima (Peru), the Dominican Republic, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Panama, Bogotá (Colombia), and Tanzania.
Implemented Cambalache’s GeoNube platform for publishing and geographic visualization (interactive geoviewers and statistical dashboards) Web scraping to collect data in each of the countries Processing of census data, open data, HDX, and UrbanPy (hexagonal grid + satellite-based estimates)
Identified critical areas with a high concentration of people in need of care and little or no service coverage, published in the interactive geoviewers Detected spatial inequalities and produced estimates of care demand Care maps are a strategy for achieving more accurate diagnoses of the social organization of care at the territorial level
